 | Wednesday, 31. March 2010 18:49

Endlich sind die neuen CPU’s erhältlich von AMD die Magny-Cours 12 Cores und von Intel die Nehalem – EX 8 Core!

Ich erwarte endlich die Vergleichszahlen von 2 gleichen 4 Socket Systemen.

Intel Nehalem – EX Overview

 | Sunday, 7. March 2010 21:42

With the Nehalem – EX we will have the first Time since 2006 the possibility to choice between Intel and AMD also for our Database Servers. The Nehalem – EX will also scale over all Sockets for the Memory Performance.

Magny-Cours versu Nehalem EX

 | Tuesday, 26. May 2009 23:06

Next Year will be extrem exiting with all this new CPU’s. Also because AMD don’t support 8 Sockets anymore with the Maranello Platform and in the First time Intel do ;-)

I really look forward to do some testing with this stuff.

12 – Core AMD this year

 | Wednesday, 29. April 2009 0:06

AMD shift there Roadmap around 6 Months ahead! Maybe we see a 12- Core Magny Cours End of this Year. IMHO we really should move from direct to Magny Cours, Istanbul has not that much improvments.

AMD New CPU’s come earlier

 | Wednesday, 22. April 2009 23:44

The New AMD CPU’s Magny Cours with 12 Cores  are really impressive. Also the Roadmap show that they really have the Potential for our Benchmarking next year. Was suprise a little bit that they only support max. 4 Sockets! Ok if they really deliver 48 Cores with more Power than the 8 Socket HP DL785 G5 than it’s maybe ok.

Intel Nehalem

 | Thursday, 29. January 2009 23:15

In January I try to get the Roadmaps for Intel Nehalem and AMD Istanbul. I only want to find out if this to Architecutre are support with RHEL4 until 2010. Because my draft for a Major Release schedule skip RHEL5 and go direct to RHEL6, but RHEL6 is earliest ready ende of 2010 so we need Hardware for RHEL4 until 2010.

It was not possible to get a answer from our Tier1 Vendor if they support RHEL5 with the new Servermodel with AMD Istanbul. That’s for me not possible that they can’t gibe us this simple answer.

I will maybe try to conntact someone in a higher possition.

for Intel I have a presentation in February, so I hope they will bring some new information. We did a test last year with a 64 Core server ( IBM x3950 M2 ) but the performance was really bad in our Enviroment. Should be really better with Nehalem.

Boost for the HyperTransport !

 | Tuesday, 19. August 2008 21:14

The HyperTransport 3.1 could boost the AMD CPU’s. In our Server Tests ( with the 32 Core Servers HP DL785 G5 and SUN x4600 M2 ) we find out that for the In Memory Performance a really fast HyperTransport is essential! When you have more than two sockets the Intercommunication between the CPU’s will be bigger and bigger.
