Red Hat Configuration Management with Puppet

 | Tuesday, 19. August 2008 21:09

For our Red Hat Server Farm we need a Mature Configuration Management. We searching now long time and @ the Linux Tag 2008 in Berlin I saw the Presentation from Francesco witch was very good, because he is IMHO the first Guy he really understand our Problem: For 1 Server we have with all Tierlevels at the End arround 7 Servers to manage!

The Red Hat Satellite Server is for the Configuration Management, after a lot of Disscussions with other Sysadmins not the best Solution. It works but nothing more. Now with the spacewalk Project there will be a big change, but that takes time.

RHEL5 Open-Sharedroot direct installation with Anaconda

 | Friday, 7. March 2008 9:55

Atix recently released the first Beta DVD from their Open-Sharedroot Product. With this DVD your are able to install a Single Node Open-Sharedroot Cluster direct with one step on GFS !

For this DVD / Howto I have waited since almost one year. I really hope they will also publish a version for RHEL4!

http://open-sharedroot.org/documentation/userguide-for-the-com-oonics-anaconda-installation-dvd

In a Enterprise Enviroment this is really important, now you are able to do a Red Hat Kickstart Installation.

Also with the normal Red Hat Tools it’s not possible to do a direct Clusterinstallation or Install RHEL on GFS.
It was never so easy to Install a Red Hat Cluster –> Check it out!

Thank you very much Atix!

Red Hat TAM

 | Wednesday, 3. October 2007 0:00

Yea, after almost one Year I was aloud to order the Red Hat TAM. After a lot of huge Problems it was not so easy to assure my Bosses for the Red Hat TAM. But in fact of our very big growing until 2015 we need a solid Linux Support, and IMHO the Red Hat TAM is the best support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and spezial for Red Hat Cluster Suite and Red Hat GFS. Also a advice that I can give: Do never buy Red Hat OEM Subscriptions!” because with this you can’t grow with Red Hat Support. That was one Lession that we have to learn hard.

After all I think we became  a very good Red Hat TAM, and he I think he has to do a lot of work in the next month ;-) We have a lot of Problems here, or better Challenges.
